Liverpool’s renewal and announcement of Jurgen Klopp’s contract could not have come at a better time. It is certainly the extra motivation needed to get them over the line this season.
The Reds take the lead by two points in the title race until Manchester City’s result against Leeds United later this evening. They could be the new log leaders for longer than a few hours if City fails to win or could go back down to second behind by one point if City takes all three.
Jurgen Klopp’s men narrowly left St. James’ Park with all the points as they won the fixture 1-0 against Newcastle United. Thanks to a first-half Naby Keita goal and some astute defending from Virgil van Dijk and co. Klopp celebrated his extension with a victory.
The manager’s emotions were on full display after the final whistle. You could see what the win meant for him and his boys in this ever-so-tight Premier League title race. This is why Liverpool’s timing of Klopp’s contract renewal must not be understated.
Timing is everything for Liverpool
Like their two arrivals over the past two transfer windows are being praised, so must the arrival of the manager’s new deal be. The Reds are embarking on the final stretch of the league campaign and are the only English club in the running for all major honors.
Moral boosts and motivational pushes are important cards to play when you need your squad happy and firing on all cylinders—announcing Klopp’s deal certainly gave the boys an extra bit of push for three points against the Magpies.
Pinpointing Liverpool’s perfect timing:
- After conceding 42 goals, the second-highest of the top-four clubs back in the 2020/21 season, they signed Ibrahima Konate to help bolster the defense.
- Then the Reds caught up with Man City midway through this term and saw a priority target on the verge of signing for a Premier League rival. They stepped in and made sure they got their man, Luis Diaz. He came in and added an extra push and depth of firepower to the frontline.
- Now, the final bit of inspiration, handing Klopp a new contract. This is what was needed for them to see them stay on Man City’s heels till the last whistle of the EPL 2021/22 season.
Now it also gives them the drive to see out their 2-0 advantage against Villareal and reach the Champions League Final, as well as give them the confidence to beat Chelsea in the FA Cup Final.
Even legend and current Aston Villa boss, Steven Gerrard, spoke of the extension as Liverpool’s most important signing in recent times and for years to come. He is 100% on the money with his comments and said it out loud like a true Liverpool fan.
Moral boosts are important and are often overlooked. One day the moves made in between will be forgotten but the achievements will be written down in the history books.
