It is reported that the Premier League is blocking strugglers Burnley‘s attempt to sign former Chelsea winger Victor Moses.

Moses is currently contracted by Russian club Spartak Moscow, but under special dispensation granted by FIFA and UEFA due to the ongoing situation in Ukraine, the player is considered a free-agent until June 30 of this year.

It is understood the refusal of letting Burnley sign the player, is on the ground of ‘sporting integrity’. The club cited the fact it would allow Moses to continue playing and help me leave Russia to be loved ones and friends at the current time, but the request was denied.

In Spain, La Liga has been allowing it’s clubs to sign players affected by the War between Russia and Ukraine and in the English Football League, Sheffield United became the first English club to sign a player affected – Filip Uremovic – until the end of the season.

The Premier League has been criticised for it’s stance.

Former Finland National Team captain, Tim Sparv told Sky Sports he disagrees with the stance.

"“We need to do everything we can to help players get out of Russia, a country led by a dictator.“We need to give them the chance to go and play somewhere where they feel safe. This is a humanitarian issue.”"

The top leagues in Spain and Germany, Serie A and Bundesliga, have both chosen to take the same stance as the Premier League.

It look’s like Moses will remain in limbo for the foreseeable future, with a move to Burnley, most likely off the table.
