Newcastle United might not have seen the last of Kieran Trippier this season with manager Eddie Howie handing us a positive update on the full back.
It’s been party all night for Newcastle, however, their recent triumph has been met with adversity. Eddie Howe and his Magpies enjoyed three back-to-back wins for the first time this season and since November 2018.
Added to the amazing turnaround in results, they have successfully lifted themselves out of the relegation zone — boasting a four-point gap above 18th-placed Norwich City. They’ve now also collected 11 points over the last six Premier League outings (6 of 18 points dropped only), their best total this season and counting.
Sadly, things could get a lot rockier after finally finding a rhythm under their new manager Eddie Howe. Losing Kieran Trippier to a long-term injury was not in the plans and something that certainly would throw them off, considering he has scored two goals in his last two games.
Added to Howe’s misery: these two goals came from set pieces, displaying Newcastle were becoming a threat from all sorts of situations. But not all is lost with Trippier set to return before the season concludes, according to the manager.
No timeline has been set in stone but for now, the player underwent a successful operation and is now on the road to recovery.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe on Kieran Trippier:
"The update is Kieran had his operation yesterday and that went well. So that was good news. I don’t know at this moment in time how long he will out for. But we hope to have him back before the end of the season.Obviously, it is a significant injury which was a big blow to us because he was performing so well. We hope to see him before the end of the season but in terms of a definitive timeline we will have to wait and see. We’ll see how his early rehab goes."
Eddie Howe believes there is enough quality to cover Kieran Trippier in his absence
Newcastle will not be short of options, that’s per the manager who believes this is the time for somebody to step in and do the job required to continue on their unbeaten run and winning streak if they can.
"The operation was a success but it’s an opportunity for somebody else to step up into his place but certainly we will miss his leadership skills on the pitch. He scored two goals in the last two games which have been defining moments for us. We are confident we have enough quality in the squad to cover."
Next up is a tricky trip to East London for an encounter against West Ham United. Their fight for a Champions League spot and Newcastle quest for survival has certainly raised the stakes in this meeting.
