Edinson Cavani set to leave Manchester United this summer – La Liga is said destination
Edinson Cavani is set to leave Manchester United this summer on a free transfer. As per reports, United’s no. 21 has his heart set on a move to La Liga with the possibility of joining either, Barcelona or Villareal.
The 36-year-old contract expires at the end of June. Back in January, there were talks of him wanting to leave Old Trafford with game time limited — this was due to multiple injuries and being overlooked.
Tuesday was another example of his persistent setbacks. Just ahead of Manchester United’s make-up match against Brighton on Tuesday night, where they won 2-0 at Old Trafford, the Uruguayan was ruled out with a groin injury.
This marked his 19th game out injured out of the 43 missed by the striker — that’s according to Manchester Evening News — further starting it has some United fans “frustrated”.
"Edinson Cavani is out injured again for Man United and his regular absence from the matchday squad is starting to frustrate some fans.Ralf Rangnick has no issues with Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani’s latest lay-off with a groin injury.Cavani turned 35 on Valentine’s Day and the Brighton game is due to be the 19th United game out of 43 he has missed this season."
Added to this: like the other attackers in the United dressing room, Cavani saw his minutes on the pitch fade away during the previous summer window. The arrival of duo Jadon Sancho and blue-eyed boy Cristiano Ronaldo meant Cavani dropped further down in the pecking order.
And now because of this, Cavani who enjoyed spells in Italy, France and England, is considering a switch to Spain as his last dance. Despite his heart’s desire, El Matador is not short of options for him to decide where to next.
During the winter window, in a hope of a possible South America return, Boca Juniors, along with their arch-rivals River Plate, were counting on the services of the former Paris Saint-Germain striker.
Edinson Cavani joined Manchester United in 2020. He managed to find the back of the net 17 times in 39 appearances. Sadly last season, he could only collect 2 goals in 15 apps, largely down to an injury-affected season.
Edinson Cavani is needed for Manchester United’s busy schedule ahead
El Matador is now in a race against time to try and be fit for Matchday 26 where they travel to Elland Road for a heated rivalry matchup against old foes Leeds United on Sunday. Following this will be a Champions League clash against the stubborn but inconsistent Club Atlético de Madrid.
His experience will be required for both matches with the trip to Madrid the more important of the two. A trip missed to Leeds will be a worthy sacrifice if he is to be fit for the away game against Atlético next week Wednesday.
