According to reports, Real Madrid are interested in resigning former academy graduate Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Mirror, via Sky Sports, understands the Galacticos may look to exercise a buy-back clause included in the deal to sell the full back in 2020.

The Spaniard was sold to the North-London side for £27million under the proviso that a fee of £33.6million would see the full back return to the Bernabeu with immediate effect.

Madrid’s then-manager Zinedine Zidane had adjudged the 25-year-old as surplus to requirements after rumours of a fallout between the two, but his successor appears to have other ideas.

Under Carlo Ancelotti’s regime

Now under Carlo Ancelotti’s regime, the Spanish giants are looking to strengthen the left-back position with rumours that veteran Marcelo will leave upon his contract expiry in June.

The Brazilian full-back has found his playing time scarce this season as the introduction of Ferland Mendy spells a look to the future for the Galacticos.

Reguilon, a consistent figure in Spurs

Reguilon, a consistent member of Antonio Conte’s preferred XI, has been a steady performer in a Spurs team that have lacked cohesion this season.

Despite their rough patch of form, however, Champions League qualification remains the ambition, with games in hand and their underachieving rivals holding the door ajar.

Conte will no doubt look to brush the rumours under the carpet in order to retain focus on the task at hand, in the knowledge that Spurs hold very few cards in regard to the outcome of his player’s future in the summer.

Reguilon’s departure would add to a growing list of areas in the Italian’s squad that demands investment come the end of the season and at the price quoted may be difficult to replace.

To provide solace for the Spurs faithful, Reguilon isn’t the only player his former side have been linked to, with rumours surfacing that Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney has also been drawn up as an option.
