Newcastle targeting Dan Burn to add to their defence
Newcastle United’s January spending spree goes on as they look to conclude a deal for Brighton’s Dan Burn.
Burn will become the Magpies third addition of the window, after a deal for former Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes was confirmed today.
Burn, who began his career in non-league with Darlington, will come in to a very leaky defence, with Eddie Howe hoping he can begin closing the team up at the back. The 29-year-old may be 6ft 7, but has become very versatile whilst at Brighton, often turning up a wing back in different games.
In four years on the south coast, the defender has made 85 appearances, scoring two goals.
Newcastle are in desperate need to fix their defence if they are to somehow work up the league and save themselves this year. Howe thinks the north-east born defender will be the first step in that direction.
The Magpies are also looking to add players further up the field, with the club still attempting to push through a deal for Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard. Though many are hopeful of completing the deal, there are many stumbling bocks, including United’s hope of the player wanting to stay.
Howe will be hoping to get more deals done before tomorrows deadline, but bringing Premier League experience is at the top of that list, and Burn certainly brings that, after spending several years in one of the best defences, below the top five.
