Manchester City look to have a found a new Argentine starlet that could possibly take over Sergio Aguero’s throne at the Etihad. River Plate’s Julian Alvarez seems to be Pep Guardiola’s player of choice with a deal to be finalised this month, with the forward staying on loan in Argentina till the end of the season.

Deal now sealed - Álvarez will remain at River Plate on loan until July. pic.twitter.com/3JQYAuS1U3
The 21-year-old has been a sensation in his home country scoring 23 goals in 57 league games, even making his international debut in 2021, against Chile.
Alvarez can play anywhere on a front three, be that down the middle or out wide. A quick player who loves to have the ball, dribble at the opposition to create chances for teammates or opportunities for himself, either in the box or take the shot from deep. The Argentine is also not afraid to get involve with the defensive side of play, known to get involved with a good tackle where needed.

- Man City will pay €18.5m with bonuses/taxes
- Contract until 2027 but Julián's staying at River Plate on loan
- He's considered a "star for the future", won't affect City plan to sign top striker
- Man United were never close to sign him pic.twitter.com/jG6g4lS1mG
It is understood the Alvarez signing will not affect City’s pursuit of a new first-team forward, instead Guardiola and his staff believe he is a player for the future, but hope they can develop him quickly and get him involved in first team action as soon as next season.
The deal should be complete before the end of the week.
