Burnley are attempting to make some moves in the January transfer window, and get themselves off the basement of the Premier League. It is understood that their first big target of the window is Dinamo Zagreb star and Croatia international, Mislav Orsic.
Since losing Chris Wood to relegation rivals Newcastle United, it’s no secret that Burnley are in desperate need of some attacking help, and while Orsic may not be the huge, target man, he can give the the Clarets a different dimension going forward.
The 29-year-old is an attacking midfielder or winger, who is known for his free-kick taking ability and pact, direct forward runs. Although Maxwell Cornet is currently away on international duty, when the Ivory Coast man was to return, he could form a fast, new look, two-pronged attack for the team should Orsic join.
The player has spent the majority of his career in his native Croatia, with small spells in China and South Korea. He returned to Europe in 2018, joining Zagreb, where he has since amassed 67 goals in a 168 appearances, form which earned him his first call up to the national team in 2019.
In past years the forward has made a name for himself bagging big goals in Europe, last year Orsic scored a hattrick in the Europa League against Tottenham Hotspur to knock them out of the competition, and in this years competition he scored a winner against West Ham United, to send his side into the knockouts.
It is understood that Burnley have made a breakthrough with Zagreb but there are lots of positives coming out of the talks, with hope that a deal will be finalized before the end of the week.
