According to recent reports, struggling Watford has sacked their manager, Claudio Ranieri, ahead of the winter break. The former Leicester City gaffer is out of a job after just three and a half months in charge at Vicarage Road.

The report reads:

"Watford have sacked head coach Claudio Ranieri after just over three months in charge. The Premier League club have now started the search for his replacement. His dismissal follows Friday night’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of relegation rivals Norwich City.Watford are now searching for their third permanent head coach of the season.(Via: The Athletic)"

The former Fulham manager was under pressure following a 3-0 defeat against Norwich City. Josh Sargent’s brace and Juraj Kucka’s own goal can be looked at as the final straws for Ranieri.

The club is once again in search of a new manager after sacking Xisco Munoz and Ranieri over the span of 112 days. It will be interesting to see who the Hertfordshire outfit will hire to bail them out of the relegation battle.

Claudio Ranieri’s Watford tenure

The struggling Hornets appointed the former Sampdoria manager back in October 2021. The club is fighting for survival and deemed Ranieri as the perfect man to save the drowning boat.

As Watford’s gaffer: he only won two games, lost 11, and drew one out of his 14 in charge. Claudio Ranieri’s remarkable victory came against an out-of-form Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The spirited Watford side was able to score four goals on the night, with four different players scoring the goals. Joshua King, Ismaila Sarr, Joao Pedro, and Emmanuel Bonaventure were on the scoresheet.

They find themselves in deep trouble following their defeat to the Canaries. They are in 19th place in the standings and are two points off safety but still have two games in hand over Norwich, who overjumped them after the relegation scrap over the weekend.

Norwich City is in 17th place with 16 points from 22 games, while Watford has 14 points from 20 games. With games in hand and a new manager coming in, can the Hornets survive relegation?
