Middlesbrough fullback, Djed Spence, currently on-loan at Nottingham Forest, is being circled by Premier League clubs left, right and centre, with Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Leeds United being three clubs with known interest.

The 21-year-old has shined since Steve Cooper took over at the City Ground, even putting a star performance in the teams FA Cup victory over Arsenal. Spence has played 24 times in all competitions this season, scoring one goal.

Just why is Spence so sought after?

The youngster came through the academy at Fulham, but left for Middlesbrough without playing a single senior game for the London club. He made his professional debut on Riverside in 2018, in a League Cup tie against Notts County.

The fullback would be a regular in the side from 2019 onwards, winning EFL Young Player of the Month in January 2020. When Neil Warnock was replaced by Chris Wilder at Middlesbrough, Spence would fall down the pecking order and end up on-loan at Forest. There, he would find his feet again, and begin putting in some eye-catching performances.

The player is strong in the dribble and loves to take on opposition defenders, he has the pace to intercept the ball, and win back possession anywhere on the pitch and he isn’t afraid of getting stuck in, known for making strong tackles.

The reason teams are after him is down to that ability to get forward. The London-born defender can be perfect for the wing-back role or as a fullback. At 21, he has adapted to any situation, and would have the time and potential for the step up to the Premier League.

Any deal for Spence would see him remain in the Championship until at least the end of the season, as the player has already played for two clubs this year, but it is said that most of the clubs interested would be eager to get a deal done now, as to not miss out.
