Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has been on the fringes for Arsenal this season, as the club is reportedly looking to move on from their highest-earning player. After weeks of speculation, the Gunners have been given a potential exit plan for their striker.

According to CBS Sports, Saudi club Al-Nassr have reportedly made an offer for Aubameyang. The club, who sits third in the Saudi Premier League, have reportedly offered Arsenal a loan for the remainder of the campaign, with an €8 million obligation to buy at the season’s end.

"Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be handed an escape route from his Arsenal exile after Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr made an offer for the Gunners’ former captain. The Riyadh-based club submitted a proposal to Arsenal on Tuesday that would see them take Aubameyang on loan until the end of the season when they would be obliged to sign him permanently for $9.1 million (€8 million).Technical director Edu and the club’s hierarchy are yet to respond to the bid, however, they are understood to be ready to part ways with their top earner after a tumultuous spell off the pitch.(Via: cbssports.com)"

Aubameyang back from AFCON

Aubameyang, who has been sidelined from AFCON due to COVID-related health issues, has not featured for Arsenal since December 6. He has returned to North London for medical tests but does not appear to be in the club’s current plans.

The striker has also been the subject of disciplinary issues this season, being stripped of the captaincy by Mikel Arteta for repeated issues. A mutual parting of ways seems to be desired by both sides.

Does the move make sense?

A new club for Aubameyang would be crucial for Arsenal’s quest for a new striker, as he earns a club-high of £250,000 a week. The Gunners are reportedly engaged in talks with Fiorentina to sign their young striker Dusan Vlahovic, and moving the Gabon international on could be key for financing the move.

Al-Nassr, who also features former Everton man Ramiro Funes Mori, could provide a chance for Aubameyang to find form and feature regularly. At 32, he still has time to regain his status as a reliable player and potentially return to a top league.

Arsenal has not responded to the bid yet, but they are said to be open to a move in January. Other clubs are reportedly interested, including Newcastle United and his former club, St.Etienne.
