Current Liverpool and Luis Diaz situation: Is there a transfer brewing?
Liverpool have been heavily linked with FC Porto attacker, Luis Diaz. However, amid all the links and reports suggesting a £60m bid is being prepared by the Reds, there is still conflicting news about the club’s transfer business or total lack thereof.
The Liverpool club is said not to be in the market for any fresh players and will consider adding new names in the summer rather than now during the winter. This has become a major worry for fans as they have expressed their frustrations towards owners FSG, on various social media platforms.
It is quite understandable, seeing Jurgen Klopp are without two of his first-choice attackers in Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah; they are enjoying the CAF Africa Cup of Nations with Naby Keita and with their respective countries.
They are major casualties for Klopp, who is a couple of injuries away from having Kaide Gordon lead the line alongside Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as a false 9 try-out — and that is not even tackling the grey area of midfield and the lack of depth when either of the trio, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, and Thiago Alcântara are sidelined.
It begs the question… Is their lack of business a true reflection of their ambitions to win more silverware while Klopp is still at the helm?
Liverpool could lose Luis Diaz signing to Premier League rivals
The Reds were some millions away from losing the signing of Luis Diaz when Premier League outfield, Tottenham, submitted a €60million (£50m) bid for him, which was subsequently rejected because it was too low and nowhere near the sum of his buyout clause.
His release clause is €80 million (£67m); the club is not ready to entertain anything less and want him to stay beyond the winter window and the summer.
However, the attempt by Spurs proves Liverpool face fierce competition for him and need to act sooner rather than when it is too late. Bayern Munich were also mentioned as suitors when the Liverpool stories picked up pace.
"According to the report, Tottenham Hotspur have made a bid to sign Diaz this month.Liverpool have been heavily linked with the 24-year-old in recent weeks, with there being conflicting reports over whether the Reds are actually interested. This fresh report claims that Spurs have lodged a 60million euro (£50m) bid for Diaz, which is short of his 80million euro (£67m) release clause. It has also been claimed that Porto swiftly rejected the offer from Spurs, with Porto expected to turn down anything below Diaz’s release clause valuation. One thing is for certain, because of his 13 goals and four assists in 16 games for the Dragões and his stellar showing for his country, the Colombian will not be short of options when he decides to pull the plug on his FC Porto career and move on to another league.
So are Liverpool going to submit a bid worthy for FC Porto to look at?
At the moment, it doesn’t look promising at all. Besides a link to the player in mention and surprising links to Barcelona’s young-star Gavi, it has been a boring transfer window, to say the least.
If the Reds do decide to act during the January transfer window, £60m+ for a player is something we cannot really depend on transpiring. They haven’t for a long while, since Virgil van Dijk’s delayed transfer, spend big during Jan.
