After a dull summer transfer window in 2021, Liverpool fans have a thing or two to look forward to during the winter. The club is actively scouting players and is looking to steal Gavi from Barcelona.

According to multiple sports outlets, the Merseyside outfit is keen on bringing the La Masia graduate to Anfield.

The report:

"Liverpool are ready to offer Barcelona youngster Gavi ’50 times more’ per week than what he currently earns at Barcelona to try and attempt the youngster to Merseyside.Gavi, 17, has caught the eye of several European giants and non more so than Jurgen Klopp, who is understood to be keen on signing the La Masia graduate for the Reds. (Via: Daily Mail)"

Ever since the departure of Philippe Coutinho, the Anfield outfit has played without a creative midfielder behind the boisterous attack comprising of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino/Diogo Jota.

Though the club signed Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich and promoted Curtis Jones, they are no out-and-out playmakers. However, the La Masia graduate can be the last piece of the puzzle.

Gavi’s season by numbers

Rising through the ranks of La Masia, the playmaker signed his first professional contract in September 2020. He broke into the first team in 2021 and has 13 starts to his name in the Spanish top-flight.

In 16 La Liga appearances, he has a goal and three assists with his best performance coming against Elche in December. He registered a goal and an assist on the day.

Will Gavi join Liverpool? More transfer news

According to the report, Liverpool is all set to offer a huge pay rise to the Spanish international. Gavi currently earns a wage of £1,600-a-week. The Jurgen Klopp managed side is looking to offer £80,000 a week to secure his signature.

On the other hand, the financial crisis might force Barcelona to sell their wonderkid. The Catalans are yet to register Ferran Torres, whom they signed from Manchester City.

Selling Gavi will not only free up the wage bill but will also help them recoup a transfer fee. The La Masia graduate reportedly has a release clause of €50million.
