Chelsea’s form continues to stutter as they drew 0-0 with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon. The result now leaves the London side six points off leaders Manchester City, with City running out 4-0 winners against Newcastle United.

The Blue’s had attempted to get the game postponed, saying that their squad had been hit with a COVID-19 outbreak, but their request was rejected by the Premier League. Chelsea could only field six substitutes, just four of those being outfield players, and chose to start defender Trevor Chalobah in midfield.

Chelsea got off to a slow start

Chelsea got off to a slow start in the match, with Wolves’ Daniel Podence finding the back of the net, only to be ruled out for offside. The heavy fog that engulfed Molineux made it hard to see much of the play, but there wasn’t an awful lot going on as the two teams failed to really break each other down.

Leandro Dendoncker had a header comfortably saved by Blue’s keeper Edouard Mendy just before half-time before Christian Pulisic was denied at close range by Jose Sa in the closing stage of the game.

The result means Chelsea fall even further off the top of the Premier League, as for Wolves, they remain eighth with 25 points.

Thomas Tuchel argued pre-match that the game should not have gone ahead, but many football fans would argue that Chelsea were able to name a strong enough team, as was the case on social media.

Tuchel made the call to not include members of the club’s under-23 side, as those players train in a different bubble to the first-team, and did not want to risk further outbreak.

It is not known whether Chelsea’s Carabao Cup Quarter Final against Brentford and Boxing Day game against Aston Villa are in doubt, but the Blues will be hoping either game can turn their current form around.
