Ross Barkley has recently been told by his club that there is no longer a future for him at Chelsea. Because of the recent decision can we expect a move away from Stamford Bridge for the former Everton player?

With the news that Ross Barkley has been told he can leave the club, the player needs to start considering his options. As per reports, he wants to stay playing under Thomas Tuchel at the Bridge and wants to win silverware with them.

However, this doesn’t seem like it will progress well for Barkley who is playing in a team that is one of the three clubs considered as serious title contenders this season, as well as one of the favourites to go all the way in the Champions League in a bid to retain their European glory.

While they compete for a place at the summit, Barkley is down in the pecking order and for him to play regular football he would have to outplay the likes of Mason Mount, Kai Havert, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and others.

This season he has been limited to nine appearances — only three of them being starts — but in none of his features this season has he completed 90 minutes of football. He is yet to contribute with a goal and assist as well, which is undoubtedly counting against his fight to stay in London.

Prior to the 2020/21 run, he spent a full season with Aston Villa where he made 24 appearances, scored three times and assisted once.

Ross Barkley linked with a return to Everton

Since leaving back in 2018, Everton have struggled to replace the home-grown product. There have been attempts made but none that was putting the numbers in he was, season in and out. His time at Goodison Park was the best in his career.

There have been rumours of a return, but nothing concrete, as well all know how that ended when he forced his way out of Everton. However, the Toffees could do with the quality of Ross Barkley and are in desperate need of his abilities.

Most of this campaign has hinged on Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend because of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and others missing from selection. Rafa and the Everton squad have been crying out for some depth, and that’s even before the Spaniard joined the Merseyside club.

He would solve several issues hindering them from achieving their goal of European football for next season.

The biggest links have been pointing to a Newcastle move

Like every player on this planet is being linked to Newcastle, so is the Chelsea player. The Magpies are on the hunt to improve the squad with a blank cheque being readied for Eddie Howe to work with when the win window opens (or so they say).

They lack in every department on the pitch and the one thing the team from Tyneside can offer above all other clubs, a huge salary increase for him. He would be solving a lot of his own problems. He would get more game time, become one of the most important players in the team and get paid extremely well while doing so.

Other mentions: Aston Villa have too been linked with many Premier League fringe players now that Steven Gerrard has taken over. They have also been rumoured to be interested in the Blues outcast.

The other club named more often than not is struggling Leeds United. They could do with his quality as well, and with the injuries they have suffered from this term, they could be a strong favourite to sign him.

Many believe this is the Englishman’s most important career move due to his age. He is 28 years old and will miss the best days of his playing career if he stays on the bench at Chelsea.

What do you think Ross Barkley should do: leave Chelsea or stay and try to fight for a starting spot?
