With Ben Davies likely to have 1 or 2 blank fixtures coming up and still some slight uncertainty about Alex Telles and Diogo Dalot’s assured starting spot, I’ve opted for Matthew Cash as my defender pick.

Steven Gerrard has a history of using fullbacks as a prominent part of his teams’ offense and we’re seeing signs of this influence on his Aston Villa side with Cash getting away 3 shots in the box against Leicester last time out.

Villa’s defensive underlying stats have improved since Gerrard took over and they limited Leicester to an xG of under 1.0. Over the last 4 games, since Gerrard took over, Cash has 5 shots in the box and 12 penalty area touches.

His fixtures over the next 6 show atleast 3 that look good for a clean sheet. His offensive forays suggest he has the potential to return at both ends of the pitch over his upcoming schedule.

Must Read. Hole left by Fofana continues to haunt Leicester. light

If Diogo Dalot (4.4m) nails down a spot, he’d be my favored defensive option at a very kind price. He has an excellent fixture run over the next 10 and also has fairly decent offensive potential in a setup where fullbacks are high up the pitch.
