Arsenal has been resurgent this season under Mikel Arteta, as the Gunners find themselves firmly in the race for a top-four finish. However, they could require a new striker.
Alexandre Lacazette is out of contract at the end of the season, and Arsenal is looking to sell their French striker in January. Juventus, AC Milan, and Atletico Madrid are reportedly all interested in bringing Lacazette in, either in January or during the summer.
This, of course, leaves a major hole in the Arsenal squad. With Pierre Emerick Aubameyang already 32, and young strikers Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun not ready to contribute to the first team, the Gunners will be looking to bring in a new striker.
One option for Arteta is Everton’s 24-year-old striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
While the Englishman has been limited this year due to injury, his quality is well-known. Calvert-Lewin scored 13 goals in his breakout 2019-2020 campaign and followed that with 16 last season, for which he was rewarded with a spot in the England squad at the Euros.
He would fit in well with Mikel Arteta’s style of play. Calvert-Lewin would help to finish chances, which has at times been a problem for the Gunners. Arsenal’s strong defense has been the story of their season, and adding a striker could help their attack reach those heights.
A player of Calvert-Lewin’s quality obviously would not be cheap. Everton is reportedly looking for 60 million pounds for the English striker. He is under contract until 2025 with the Toffees, so Everton is in no rush to sell.
Arsenal would be wise to look to bring in a young striker. They have built a strong young core, and adding a star striker to a group including Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe and Aaron Ramsdale could propel the Gunners back to the Champions League.
Arsenal have been roaring back this season. Bringing in a young striker like Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be just what they need to get back to their best.
