Manchester United have confirmed the hiring of respected football figure Ralf Rangnick in a short-term and long-term capacity.

A great way to kick off the week, with the announcement of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s successor. The club, after suffering defeat to Watford, decided the reign of the Norwegian had run its course and it was time to find a new solution — that solution being Ralf Rangnick.

He will run things from the dugout for the remainder of the Premier League campaign and beyond his tenure as the manager, he will gain a consultancy role with the Old Trafford side — this will happen in the two years that follow.

It took no longer than a week to get the deal over the line but it is still unclear when he will be pictured in the dugout, with certain work visa requirements the only sticking point at the moment.

"Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season, subject to work visa requirements.Following this period, Ralf and the club have agreed that he will continue in a consultancy role for a further two years."

Until his work visa has been sorted, Michael Carrick will continue to make the team decisions. Quite frankly, he has proven that he is capable of holding down the fort, having not lost in his time at the helm and after Ole left.

So far, they are unbeaten across the two games and all competitions — winning one and drawing — both of which were important and big clashes for United in their quest this term.

Ralf Rangnick knows the mission at Manchester United

The German spoke about his excitement as well as knowing what the task is ahead. Everybody is well aware that this Manchester side is capable of playing for top honours but the utilisation of the squad was questionable and needed vast improvements.

But don’t fear, Ralf Rangnick was clear on his job at the Theatre of Dreams:

"I am excited to be joining Manchester United and focused on making this a successful season for the club. The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience. All my efforts for the next six months will be on helping these players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team.Beyond that, I look forward to supporting the club’s longer-term goals on a consultancy basis. Yes, he certainly knows and understands the task of the job and the magnitude of the club he is doing at. The key lines here are: “The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience” and “helping these players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team.”

This is what the club has been evidently missing since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. If he can re-install what he is saying during his first interview with the club, then he was the best addition made post-SAF.
