Is Weston McKennie Set for Tottenham Move?
Is Weston McKennie set for a move to Tottenham?
The 23-year-old Juventus midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League in January, with Spurs reportedly the most likely destination. Reports also say that the American could be sold for around £25 million.
McKennie had a very rough start to this campaign, with poor performances mixed with concerns about his weight and maturity. He was even kicked off of the US National Team due to violating COVID protocols.
McKennie is Playing the Best Football of His Life
However, McKennie has been in great form recently, and he has put his name back into the lineup for the Old Lady. He has scored 2 goals in his last 5 matches while playing more of an attacking role in Juventus’ midfield.
With his play as of late, it should be questioned whether or not Juventus would be willing to part ways with McKennie. But the Italian club needs money and has been rumored to need to sell multiple players in January.
He could be a player the Serie A side looks to move on, as he would likely be easy to sell due to his youth and low wages.
How He Fits into Tottenham’s squad
Spurs manager Antonio Conte is said to be a fan of the American, and he would fit in well with his style of play. Conte has even compared him to Arturo Vidal, who enjoyed much of his success under the Italian’s leadership.
McKennie is a versatile player in the middle of the park and could pair well with Pierre Emile Hojbjerg in Conte’s formidable 3-4-2-1 formation that he has used so far in London. He would add depth to a weak midfield that could see Harry Winks exit soon.
McKennie is also a goal-scoring threat, especially for a midfielder. His aerial ability serves him well on set pieces, and he could contribute to a side that ranks near the bottom of the Premier League in goals scored this season.
McKennie would be a big addition to Tottenham in January, While the Old Lady may not be willing to sell the American, he would be the perfect addition to Antonio Conte’s midfield. If the price is right— Spurs should be all over Weston McKennie.
