On Sunday we witnessed the ripple effect of Manchester United losing 4-1 to Watford at Vicarage Road when the club announced the impending sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager, ending a spell of three years at Old Trafford.

One cannot say it was a surprise to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer walk the plank after the defeat to the Hornets; it was the Red Devils fifth loss in seven Premier League outings with them now only winning one game during that time.

It was honestly a matter of what game will seal his fate and not if he will still have his job at the end of the season — United have fallen off by 12 points in the title race — following this poor run of seven games.

Man United now has a record this season where they have as many wins as losses (5W,2D,5L). The end was near and it is quite safe to say: Ole was running on borrowed time and his departure was long overdue.

Steve Bruce puts his hand up for the job

Former Newcastle United boss, Steve Bruce, who was recently sacked himself by his previous club Newcastle United, wants to take over as the club’s interim manager until they find the new boss to take charge long-term.

Reports have also said the club will be considering the United legend as one of the candidates, alongside other Manchester United legends and current coaching staff, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher.

The club’s former captain believes he has what it takes to stabilise the club and keep the dressing room together while the search continues for a proper title winner.

Others from abroad have been named: Ralf Rangnick, Lucien Favre, Laurent Blanc, Ernesto Valverde and Rudi Garcia.

What type of acquisition would Steve Bruce be for Manchester United?

Steve Bruce hasn’t had the best Premier League records and could be a step backwards for United.  Bruce spent about the same amount of time on Tyneside and his best achievement came when his Magpies finished 13th and 12th in the EPL standings and went as far as the quarter-finals in the FA Cup.

"He leaves the Magpies after more than two years in charge, having steered the club to 13th and 12th-place finishes in the Premier League and reaching the quarter-final stage in both the Emirates FA Cup and Carabao Cup during his tenure. (VIa: independent.co.uk)"

If the Manchester club is looking to stay in the Champions League and fight for a fourth-place finish, what should be their aim after their fifth loss of the term, then Bruce is not the right man for the job.

In his most recent stint with the team he left in the relegation zone, he brags a poor win ratio of  28.87%. United must be looking for a winning solution, short and long term — not just looking for an easy answer — Steve Bruce this season has collected as little as four points from the 27 points he was in charge of.

That’s not good enough for one of the biggest clubs in England and Europe, and certainly not near enough to keep them safe and fighting for some silverware while they find a new manager.
