Pulling the string and appearing as an improved figure under Thomas Tuchel is Mateo Kovacic.

The Croatian, when fit for a long period is one of the best in the league, let alone Chelsea. He has already missed one or two league games but has helped his side a lot during his time out on the pitch.

He has five assists and one goal to his name — it isn’t just the five assists he has accumulated but also the exquisite nature of the passes to find his teammate that has been a joy to watch. He and his midfield partners have been excellent in protecting the back three.

His work upfront and setting his teammates off on their bikes has been equally matched by his work at the back. Kovacic leads the team with the most tackles made with 24, pipping his midfield partner Jorginho by 2 tackles.

This is over enough evidence to showcase his improvement and importance in the London side’s 27 goals scored and helping hand in cleaning things up at the back to concede as little as four goals. He has been the man the Blues look to, to turn defence into attack.
