Chelsea appears to have found their defender target following reports that suggest the London club have made “contact” with Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana about a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have been in the hunt for a new centre-back since the summer transfer window; the main target and a player that was inches away from joining the Blues was Sevilla’s Jules Kounde. The CB was sought-after from when the window opened right until it shut, with the move falling through and the Frenchman staying put in Spain.

Now, with the contract situation for both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen up in the air, Chelsea are searching for a player for the near and far future. The pair have been in discussion for a new deal since both reached the final year of their respective deals that end in June.

The former also said to be keen on a move to Germany and ply his trade with Bayern Munich, who are willing to offer him a £200k-per-week deal to see him at the Allianz Arena. The latter, on the other hand, was said some time back to have settled his contract dispute — but nothing concrete has come from the reports of him agreeing to a contract extension.

With the uncertainty, links for fresh centre-backs has arisen and the player in discussion is the injured, Wesley Fofana.

Chelsea makes contact with Wesley Fofana

"Chelsea have reportedly made a move for Leicester defender Wesley Fofana after suffering a setback in their attempts to tie down Antonio Rudiger. The Blues are desperate to convince the German defender to ink a new deal, with Rudiger now in the final few months of his current agreement.Rudiger has evolved into a key player and one of the best defenders in the Premier League under the tutelage of Thomas Tuchel. But he has offered no guarantees over agreeing to a new deal at Stamford Bridge; leaving the Blues to start drawing up contingency plans.According to Foot Mercato, Chelsea have earmarked Fofana as a potential replacement for Rudiger. Fofana, since moving to Leicester City, has set the Premier League alight with his brilliant showing. Thanks to the series of influential displays, most of Europe’s top teams have come knocking.

For some parts of the summer transfer window, Brendan Rodgers and the club had to fend off a few interesting parties, working hard on keeping the Frenchman at King Power Stadium.

Sadly, we never got to see if Fofana was a one-hit-wonder because of the leg break he suffered in the Villareal friendly, a game afore the season started. So it’s hard to judge if he is worth the time and energy for a transfer battle — if one was to transpire.

This will be an interesting transfer saga to keep an eye on; if the Blues snatch the talented defender, then they could have one of the best future centre-backs in their team playing for years to come.
