One never to shy away from the spotlight is Manchester United’s Paul Pogba; sometimes for the wrong reasons and sometimes for the right ones, but why has his naming been ringing throughout the social media realms for the past 24-48 hours?

Firstly, making Ole sweat in the hot seat

Paul Pogba has seamlessly made Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s task to retain his job a lot harder; the French international sustained a thigh injury that will keep him out of action for at least 8-10 weeks.

This comes following his absence through suspension, which he is still serving, after receiving a red card against Liverpool back in October (1 of 3 games left). The news came straight from France national team’s training camp ahead of their World Cup Qualifiers happening over the next two weeks.

The Paul Pogba news better the second day around for Manchester United fans

Day two’s news of Pogba is a lot more welcoming for those wanting him to sign a contract extension with Man United. Reports on Wednesday suggest that the midfielder is ready to commit long term but only if the price is right.

He wants a massive salary increase that will see him break all records for being the highest-paid player in Premier League history — or maybe even in European history — it all depends on his ambitions and request.

"Pogba has a clear goal to renew, but needs a pay rise. L’Equipe say he wants to ‘break all salary records in the history of the Premier League’. However, the latest injury setback is not going to help his camp in negotiations, either with Manchester United or other clubs. (Via: sportwitness.co.uk)"

His current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, next year 2022 — a contract deal must be on the cards surely before they lose him for free? He currently earns a reported £290k-per-week.

The real question that follows: will United give in to his demands? If so, where will they stop the buck? If not, does it mean they are ready to cut ties and already have another talisman to take them back to the summit?

To take Paul Pogba to the top of the food chain in the Premier League he would have to exceed Ronaldo’s said £510k-per-week, and to become the best earner across the globe he would need to surpass Messi’s outlandish sum of £960k-per-week.

That’s a lot of a club’s budget going to a player who has struggled to hit double figures in goals+assists for the past two consecutive seasons.
