FPL GW8 saw a flurry of wildcards and was followed by a prominent injury in midweek meaning there will be plenty of transfer interest heading into GW9.
Here, we profile the top 3 most transferred in defenders, midfielders and forwards, at the time of writing and discuss their upcoming fixture run and prospects.
Top 3 most transferred in Defenders:
1) Ben Chilwell (Chelsea, 5.7m)
Next 5: NOR, NEW, BUR, LEI, MUN
Since returning to the starting lineup 2 gameweeks ago, Ben Chilwell has made a huge impact. He’s got back-to-back goals in addition to a goal for England in the international break bagging 23 points in the last two league outings.
He had 5 shots and made 3 key passes across these games and if he continues to keep his place for the majority of their fixtures, Chilwell looks capable of big hauls especially across a very kind next 3 games.
2) Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea, 6.2m)
Next 5: NOR, NEW, BUR, LEI, MUN
Another Chelsea defender takes the number 2 spot; Azpilicueta has been a picture of consistency thus far in a team that’s rotated relatively more frequently than most others, given the depth of their squad. He’s appeared in every game this season and started all but 1.
He’s coming into the plum Norwich home fixture on the back of 24 points in his last 4 fixtures including a 2-assist 10-point haul against Southampton.
With the return to fitness of Reece James, it’s likely that he plays more games as the right centre-back rather than at wing back as he’s done in James’ absence – but his consistency of minutes playing for an elite defence embarking on a kind run of games makes him an excellent option.
3) Joao Cancelo (Manchester City, 6.3m)
Next 5: BHA, CRY, MUN, EVE, WHU
While no one is rotation-proof in this Manchester City team, Cancelo has started every single league game so far. Manchester City have the best defence in the league in terms of clean sheets and expected goals conceded, their dominant style of play mean’s they can keep control of games.
Cancelo is versatile, capable of slotting in at both, right and left back and has a tendency to push forward and inward almost in a midfielder’s role in Pep’s tactical system, boosting his goal and assist threat. He remains the highest upside potential option in a team that are currently the strongest defence in the league.
