As Premier League action returns again this weekend, we will be looking at the top 5 captaincy picks for FPL GW8.

A lot has happened over the international break, including players gaining form, such as Ronaldo and KDB — or players getting a full 2-week rest, such as Salah.

As things stand, Salah appears to once again be the most popular captaincy pick this gameweek — but is there a better option out there?

Let’s find out.

Top 5 Captain Picks for GW8
#5 Jamie Vardy vs Manchester United (H)

I normally would not advise people to captain players against Manchester United, however, this week presents a great opportunity to do so. Both Maguire and Varane are ruled out for GW8, meaning United will need to field their second choice centre-back pairing — Lindelof and Bailly.

United’s defence has been their downfall this season, keeping only 1 clean sheet since GW1. And with 2 of their key defenders out, we can only expect United to be even more vulnerable when they travel to the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Many FPL managers have been overlooking Vardy, but the fact is he continues to score goals and is now leading the Golden Boot race — tied with Salah on 6 goals apiece.

An impressive statistic from WhoScored.com also shows that Vardy is one of the most threatening forwards in the league, with 27.5% of his touches being in the penalty area. This emphasises his poaching ability, which is proving to get even better by age.
