Premier League: It’s all about Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United
Forward – Ivan Toney
Wolves 0-2 Brentford
The Englishman was a focal point for Brentford this weekend and came to the party in a big way for them. He was gifted a goal from the spot 12-yards out and registered an assist to cause one of two upsets for the weekend when his side comprehensively beat the Wanderers by two goals on home soil.
Toney made a massive impact despite the team being one-man down – Thomas Frank needed a colossal figure on the pitch – and Toney provided that presence and won seven aerial duels, the most on the day.
He attempted six dribbles and completed four of them. He could have had more goals to his name but it just wasn’t meant to be a humiliating outing for the home side. Ivan Toney silenced a raucous Molineux Stadium.
Forward – Ismaila Sarr
Norwich City 1-3 Watford
In a must-win encounter, one of your main characters need to stand out above the rest and that’s exactly what Ismaila Sarr did when the Hornets stung the Canaries 1-3 at Carrow Road.
He was unlucky not to score more goals on the day with him registering five shots and all of them on target. His two goals helped his side move up four places in the Premier League standings from last week’s 15th place to this week’s 11th-placed team.
Forward – Mohamed Salah
Liverpool 3-0 Crystal Palace
At the rate the Egyptian King is going, it will be hard not to see him in every team of the week. Reaching 30 hasn’t slowed him down at all. Mo Salah was all things Liverpool attack.
He had a hand in one of Liverpool’s goals on the weekend when he took his side on top of the table for 24 hours. He was also one of three Africans to score a goal for the Reds: Naby Keita, him and Sadio Mane all hitting the target for Liverpool’s 3-0 triumph over the Eagles on Matchday 5.
He didn’t collect more goals on the day and that was thanks to solid defending by Palace – even though the scoreline reflects differently – as it could have been a lot worse than 3-0.
Manager of the weekend: Thomas Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp
The pair has answered for each other every weekend, literally showing the same pattern over the first five games. Also, they once again outclassed their respective opponent and collected their fourth clean sheet of the season.
Both men have only conceded one goal in 450 minutes of football, showcasing the slightest slip up by them and even third-placed Man United could cost them the league this season.
