Cristiano Ronaldo played his second debut for Manchester United against Newcastle United that ended in a 4-1 victory at home.

This was the first time he was a home player at Old Trafford since 2009; Ronaldo scored a brace and made an early statement to the rest of the Premier League, and all of his doubters, too.

The 36-year-old striker officially completed his move to United on August 27th, when the club confirmed the deal on their social media account.

Manchester United fans seemed to rejoice in the news that a club legend, and one of the greatest the game has ever seen, was returning to their the Theatre of Dreams. Yet, despite all he’s accomplished, there were many people who doubted he would be able to make an impact in the Premier League at his age.

Manchester United’s current squad has been given some high praises from their manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – he said that he believes his roster to be better than the club’s 1999 treble-winning side – that the Norwegian manager was a part of.

United haven’t won a trophy since their Europa League triumph under Jose Mourinho back in 2017, however, it seems clear that both Ronaldo and Solskjaer are in agreement with their expectations of the club this season.

Ronaldo said after their big win:

"As I said before, we have huge potential, we have fantastic players, a good coach, we have a good team. We need to build the mentality to win the Premier League and even the Champions League. I’m here to help the team."

After finishing second place in the Premier League last season and losing in the Europa League Final vs Villarreal in penalties, the Red Devils will look to come out of this season with some silverware.

There are some concerns on how the club will line up throughout the campaign and what is their best starting XI will be for the season, as their attack currently relies on two veterans over the age of 34 to play striker.
