England end their round of World Cup Qualifiers on a high despite a 1-1 draw with Poland
After the three World Cup Qualifiers England participated in, they have scored eight goals, conceded one, and collected seven points. This keeps them four points clear at the summit of Group I; their stats after six played is 5 wins, 1 draw, 0 loss, 18 scored, and 2 conceded.
The result of 1-1 between Poland and England truly reflects what many forecasted to be the toughest test the English will face in Group I.
The Three Lions’ strongest opponents exhibited astute resilience – especially to bring the game level in the 93rd minute of stoppage time and steal a point – Damian Szymański, the man on target for the Poles.
Gareth Southgate made 11 changes to his starting XI from their 4-0 victory over Andorra, returning to the preferred and trialed Euro 2020 4-5-1 formation – consisting of his usual starting XI – who were almost unmoved once again.
Despite a draw, England lead the group in high spirits and with loads of confidence!
Two more victories in their next four World Cup Qualifiers and England book their tickets to Qatar 2022 – but no one can bet against the English topping their group, reflecting on their recent success.
This is due to the fact England wiped the floor with Hungry and Andorra, sweeping passing them with eight goals scored over the two games – four apiece for England and having no reply from either competitor – they are two of the next four fixtures for Southgate and co.
Added to this, they play against second-placed Albania and last-placed San Marino – the latter a country the Three Lions have scored 16 past in the last three meetings between the pair – also having no response and keeping a clean sheet in all of these triumphs.
Filling the England squad with more confidence, their prolific goalscorer Harry Kane, who scored the go-ahead against Poland with a wonder striker, became the country’s fifth-highest all-time scorer with 41 goals scored.
He also caps off a massive feat after his goal against the Poles, scoring in each of his last 14 qualification games for his country.
