Liverpool ties another first-team player down long-term with a new deal; Jordan Henderson the latest Red to sign a contract extension with the club and taking his stay at Anfield till June 2025.

At first, it was believed the club and the captain hit a stumbling block in negotiations when it was reported the pair were in discussions. The change in news accelerated quickly and what was first thought to be a stumbling block turned out to be the end of Henderson at Liverpool.

Rumours led many to believe the club will not be put in the same situation as they were when Georginio Wijnaldum was in a contract standoff with the Merseyside outfit stating firmly, they do not want him to leave on a free.

Jordan Henderson has given his all for Liverpool in his time at the club

It’s safe to say since Jordan Henderson made his big club move from Sunderland to Liverpool back in 2011 for an undisclosed fee estimated to be between £16 and £20 million, it’s been a rocky ride – sometimes even uphill – and then other times, smooth sailing. In fact,  if it wasn’t for the recent success over the last few years Liverpool have enjoyed, his tenure as the club captain would have been seen as a failure.

Thankfully, his time at Anfield has seen him bring home a Champions League gold medal, the Premier League title, a Super Cup and a Club World Cup. His 11 seasons as a Red has seen him make 394 appearances, scoring 30 goals and collecting 46 assists.

However, we know it is not his attacking prowess that have kept him a mainstay in the team but his work rate and leadership skills that have made him an important figure in Klopp’s starting XI and in the dressing room.
