Manchester United are all set to resume their Premier League title hunt on Saturday. The Old Trafford outfit will start their 2021/22 campaign in a blockbuster Yorkshire derby against Leeds United. Both teams will clash at Old Trafford in front of a full capacity stadium in an early kick-off.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finished second in the Premier League last season but endured an unpleasant ending to the campaign, losing the Europa League finals to Villareal on penalties. The club will be looking to make amends in the new season ahead and end its barren run.

Leeds United finished in the top half of the points table on their return to the English top-flight. They finished ninth in the league and will hope to improve their position in 2021/22 with recent additions to their squad.

Manchester United vs Leeds United: Injury news

Dean Henderson and Jesse Lingard tested positive for COVID-19 and have been ruled out for the game. The English shot-stopper missed EURO 2020 because of a hip injury. Ole reported the player is recovering strongly from both, the injury and COVID-19.

Left-back Alex Telles will miss the start of the Premier League campaign owing to an ankle injury. Pundits expect him to return to the squad in September.

Marcus Rashford had successful surgery on his shoulder, an operation he could no longer put off. The player will be available for selection only after September.

Predicted Line-up for Manchester United

With Dean Henderson unavailable for selection, David de Gea will start between the sticks. As the new signing Raphael Varane has not trained with the squad, I expect Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof to be the preferred center-back pairing for Man United. Aaron Wan Bissaka and Luke Shaw have recovered from their injuries and are available for the game.

Leeds are known for their high intensity in the midfield and upfront. To counter the pace, Manchester United have to field the pacy duo in the pivot. In the midfield, we expect Solskjaer to continue with his favorite trio of Bruno Fernandes, Fred and Scott McTominay. However, Donny van de Beek might be in contention for a start because of his impressive performances during the pre-season.

Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani are unavailable for the game against Leeds. The Red Devils’ new signing, Jadon Sancho, has the versatility to feature on both the flanks. Ole will be on his toes to start his new signing, while we expect Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood to start the game for Man United on Saturday.

Match Prediction:

When both teams met last season, the Red Devils ruthlessly demolished Leeds 6-2 in the first game whereas, in the second game, Marcelo Bielsa held them to a draw. With the addition of fiery winger Sancho, I predict Manchester to take all three points home in their first game of the campaign.
