Arsenal have decided to end their pursuit of Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale following a breakdown in negotiations. The North London club will now turn their attention elsewhere.

For the entire summer window, the Gunners have been linked with a move for the Championship stopper. In fact, since they lost Emiliano Martínez to Aston Villa for £20m, a decision that is undoubtedly marked down as the club’s biggest error under Mikel Arteta, they have been searching for a replacement keeper.

Move on a season from selling the Copa America winning goalkeeper, and the club feels first-choice Bernd Leno is not good enough and are said to be willing to sell the German. This makes the mistake of selling Emi an even bigger one.

Now Arsenal have pulled out of the Ramsdale deal and will seek stopper services abroad

The news they have pulled out of the deal for the Blades’ goalkeeper was met with cheers and rejoice. The fans are not complaining and are happy with Leno continuing in between the sticks until a “more favourable” figure gets named by the North Londoners.

The pair of English clubs were in advance stages as reported but could not agree on a fee. Now that it has collapsed, some tabloids suggest Barcelona’s veteran goalie Neto could make his way to the Emirates.

Of recent Neto has been the only named player and no other links to other stoppers have come forward. It could be difficult to decide on what sort of keeper you are going to sign: a first-choice replacement, long-term option, or a quick fix for the season ahead.

Because Arteta feels Leno is not up to standard, it makes the search for a new stopper that much harder. The biggest encouragement, however, the manager made it clear, more business will happen during this transfer window.
