Tottenham, surprisingly, has overtaken their rivals in the pursuit of Inter Milan striker, Lautaro Martinez. However, both North London clubs could have hit a stumbling block in a potential deal for him.

There are a couple of shocking factors coming from the twist in Lautaro Martinez’s summer story. The first is how Spurs have gone from a frantic search for a new manager to signing more players than Liverpool and now could be on the verge of beating their neighbouring rivals to the signing of Martinez.

Then there is the idea that Inter could be about to lose, not just one, but their two first-choice strikers in the aforementioned Martinez and the Chelsea-bound Romelu Lukaku.

The latter by far is the most confusing of the two summer window shocks. Nonetheless, the Serie A champs have been busy trying to recover their losses with the latent arrival of Edin Dzeko, who is a medical away from joining them from Roma.

But it will take more to replace the pair of Inter strikers than just signing an aged Dzeko. If they do complete more deals for forwards at the San Siro, you can be sure Spurs get their £50m Lautaro Martinez deal over the line.

The question standing now is, how bad is Inter Milan’s financial situation? Is it a mini sustainable matter that can be easily fixed? Or is it a major crisis that requires many sales? This will also be a determining factor in the purchase of the Argentine.

Other Spurs news

Spurs, despite having Kane nightmares, have options and a strong hand to choose from during the summer window – ironically because of Harry Kane. With Manchester City still viewing him as a priority signing, they could see a world-class number 9 as a must sign.

Since the start of the window, Spurs have been offered money to the value of £100m and a couple of players – most noticeably, Gabriel Jesus and/or Aymeric Laporte – the pair or one or the other could head to North London for Kane to move to the Etihad.

Spurs have denied this deal in the early stages of the window opening but could budge if they are getting some Premier League quality players – but this will only be after they face them, no doubt.

Also, Nuno Santo confirmed Harry Kane will be available for selection when they run out against Man City on Sunday for the opening weekend of Premier League football.
