Liverpool fall behind rivals Manchester United in Saul race
The race for Atlético de Madrid’s Saul Niguez is heating up and with all involved making it difficult to judge where he will be next season, one thing is certain, Madrid is not where he will stay following the summer transfer window.
The latest team to enter the Saul race but one who has always been interested in the midfielder is Manchester United. The Red Devils have recently expressed an interest and have seamlessly overtaken Liverpool in the hunt for the Spaniard.
The collapsed move to Barcelona has provided room for Premier League clubs to make a deal for Saul

Saul Niguez has been the subject of an Atlético de Madrid exit since the summer transfer window opened.
The initial rumours kicked off with Anfield as a possible destination but nothing came of the links to “monitoring FC” – it died out as quickly as a fire lit badly in wet conditions.
Then in stepped Barcelona who offered the most lucrative deal that involved their old blue-eyed boy, Antoine Griezmann, in a swap deal.
Things were moving along steadily until wages was brought up and no club on either end of the transfer dealings were prepared to pay their potential new player’s salary.
Griezmann, who left Athletico back in 2019 for Barca, is being sold by the club in order to secure Messi’s new contract.
The La Liga giants need to lower their wage cap so that they can ensure Messi continues to call Camp Nou his home – for this Griezmann has been named as one of the exit casualties.

Manchester United, well on their way to signing Saul Niguez?
Now that a Griezmann-Saul swap deal appears dead, Manchester United have made advances on trying to sign the midfielder. The Old Trafford outfit is said to have overtaken all for the player’s signature.
Mundo Deportivo is reporting that the English outfit is already in advance talks with his agent, while others believe Ole Gunnar Solskjær wants both the Saul appointment and Raphael Varane transfers completed before the end of this week.

Despite everything pointing in the direction of Saul heading to Manchester, their rivals are still in the mention and still have hope they can pull off a deal.
With this being said, one cannot see Liverpool beating their oldest foes to his signature, considering they are so “strapped for cash” at the moment and “need to sell” before adding any new names.
