Liverpool moves on in their search for a Gini replacement – the midfielder who was a mainstay in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI announced at the end of his contract that he has joined PSG.

The Reds are in the market for a world-class midfielder, either at the peak of their powers or just coming into their best years. One link to the club that has been consistent was that of Renato Sanches from Lille.

Talks have since cooled down on the Portuguese, who let’s face it, has many years to go before reaching his prime or can be considered as world class already.

They have now changed direction towards Spain and last season’s La Liga champions, Atletico Madrid. The Reds are said to be in talks, which are supposedly progressing well, for Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez.

Some reports believe a €40m bid will be submitted by the Reds soon while others say a €40m proposal has been presented by Micheal Edwards and the transfer committee team already.

The La Liga champs are happy to listen to offers for Saul and will consider Liverpool’s €40m offer, however, they could hold out for €10m more and try and get the maximum of €50m they valuate him at.

The only piece of news that all tabloids agree on is that his wages could present a problem for the Anfield club to adjust to. He is currently on €300,000-per-week, which is roughly about £250-per-week.

It would make him the best-paid player at the club, something the stars currently at Anfield could have a problem with. So business could hit a major stumbling block.

Gini leaves a big hole in the middle of the park

The box-to-box Dutchman left a hole so big at Anfield, it could even take two players to fill the hole left by him.

However, it must be said, if it is a player of Saul Niguez’s talent being named as the successor solution, Liverpool fans need not worry, for he is one of the best who operates in the middle of the park. The most attractive stat of the Spain international is his ability to stay fit.

Staying fit was Georginio Wijnaldum most valuable asset as well – couple this with his brilliant ball control and snatching of the ball from opposition high up the pitch and then eventually turn defence into attack is all that the Reds need to look at when finding the right man for the job.

Saul has made 261 La Liga appearances between Rayo Vallecano and Atlético Madrid over nine seasons and has scored 28 goals and has assisted a further 14. In the past, he was mostly linked with a move to Manchester United.
