Olivier Giroud is finally making a move to Italy and will join AC Milan

For every time I wrote the words “Olivier Giroud has reached an agreement” or “Giroud will leave Chelsea this summer” and got a penny for it, I would no longer be writing and would be a rich man today.

Unfortunately, that is not how life works for some or most, and finally, Olivier Giroud will leave Stamford Bridge with all parties involved, Chelsea, AC Milan and Olivier himself, in agreement for a deal to happen.

Reports suggest that the Frenchman will jet off as early as next week to complete a deal that is worth €2 million –  €1m up front and another €1m in add-ons. His contract with the Serie A club is set to last until 2023.

Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Thursday:

"AC Milan have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Olivier Giroud, here-we-go soon! €1m as guaranteed fee, €1m as add on. Giroud will sign until June 2023 once all details will be fixed."

For multiple, consecutive transfer windows, summer and winter, Olivier Giroud has been linked with a Premier League exit – with the latest entry he has been linked to all of the Serie A’s top clubs.

First, it was a potential move to join the Old Lady. Then he was close to a switch from Stamford Bridge to Inter Milan to join up with his old Boss, Antonio Conte.

Now the last team also being the most recent team, AC Milan, could have finally broken the curse that has kept the striker in England.

AC Milan finished in second place and a staggering 12 points behind their city rivals, Internazionale Milano, in a campaign that saw the return of the old, sleeping giants, AC and Inter. However, it was Inter who reigned supreme.

Part of the reason was not having ample firepower in the ranks. Of the top five finishers from last season in Italy’s top flight, the Rossoneri had to lowest goals for with 74. We know Olivier Giroud has goals in his locker which could help AC go all the way.

In his time in the Premier League, he spoilt us with many spectaculars, most noticeably his scorpion goal, which also won the FIFA Puskas award in 2017. He scored a healthy total of 152 goals in 255 top-flight appearances spanning over nine seasons long.

The two could be exactly what each other needs – one needs a lethal goalscorer to be ready at all times, either coming on from the bench or ready to start, while the other needs a new challenge and a better shot at gaining more and regular minutes on the pitch.
