Arsenal have tied down one of their shining lights of the 2020/21 signings in Scotland full back Kieran Tierney, giving him a new 5-year deal.

The 24-year-old has made 62 appearances in total for Arsenal since he moved to the Emirates for £25 million from then Scottish Champions Celtic.

The hard-working left-back, who can play anywhere across the backline, has often struggled with injuries, but when in the side, has always been a big boost for Mikel Arteta.

In 2020/21 Tierney was a rock for Arsenal when he played making 2.1 clearances per 90 and 2 successful tackles per 90.

Tierney also displayed how valuable he was to the Gunners going forward, getting 3 assists in the Premier League, making 1.1 key passes per 90 and 1 cross per 90, proving that Tierney was vital in all areas of the pitch for Arsenal.

Arsenal Technical Director Edu stated it was important to tie down a player of his quality:

"Anyone who has seen him play will recognise very quickly that he is a player of huge ability, but I can tell you that he is also a player with a fantastic attitude and mentality.Arteta said Tierney was a pleasure to work with and labelled why he wanted him in the squad:His quality, energy, commitment and professionalism, not only on matchdays, but every day in training are always at such a high level. The new deal will see Tierney at the Emirates till at least 2026. For now, Tierney and the Scotland national team will get a much-need rest after exiting Euro 2020 and ending dead last in Group D.

Tierney was missing for his country’s opener and it was noticeable that his energy wasn’t on the pitch. They failed to win a group game and only managed to earn a point which was against old rivals, England.

Other than renewing contracts of some key players, the Gunners are said to be doing aplenty behind the scenes, hard at work trying to acquire new players. It’s supposed to be a busy summer for the club.
