A return home for Angus Gunn after Norwich City announced that they have agreed to sign the goalkeeper from Southampton.

Angus Gunn goes back home on a four-year deal that sees him stay at Carrow Road until 2025. It has kind of been his modus operandi to swing back and forth between his boyhood club and the Saints with Manchester City and Stoke City somewhere in between.

"Norwich City have completed the permanent signing of goalkeeper Angus Gunn from Southampton. Gunn, a boyhood City fan, has put pen to paper on a four-year contract.Born in Norwich and son to Canaries legend Bryan, Angus returns to the club he spent the beginning of his youth career at, as well as a season on loan from Manchester City in 2017-18. Manchester City was the club that signed the 25-year-old stopper from the Canaries back in 2017 and when he was only 21 years old.

Although he signed for the champions of England, it was only when he moved to St. Mary’s in 2018 did he get a taste of the Premier League.

It has been a tough time for Gunn since leaving Norwich – his last showing in England’s top-flight was back in 2019/2020.

There, between 2018 and 2020 he got a few opportunities and made 22 appearances, 12 in 18/19 and 10 in 2019/2020. At the highest level in football, he faced a combined total of 101 shots on target against him, conceding 43 goals, making 60 saves plus keeping 5 clean sheets.

He was probably always out of favour, falling behind Fraser Forster and Alex McCarthy in the pecking order – even now Harry Lewis is the third-choice first-team goalkeeper for the Saints.

Angus Gunn was left to play in the Championship and Premier League 2 Division 2 with both Stoke  City and Southampton – his last coming at Stoke.

There he featured 16 times in the Championship, conceding 24 goals while making 32 saves and keeping eight clean sheets. What he does come with is some domestic cup experience, having taken part in 13 cup games between the years 2017 and 2020.

Now he rejoins City after them just earning promotion back to the Premier League for the second time in three years. He becomes their fourth summer addition after Kenny Coker from Southend, Milot Rashica from Werder Bremen, and Flynn Clarke Peterborough.
