Group B’s Top Team – Belgium

Belgium stayed almost perfect throughout the group stage – an early goal conceded against Denmark the only stain on an otherwise spotless record.

Such dominance is to be expected from the team currently ranked the best in the world by FIFA. However, questions remain whether they can go all the way in the competition.

Roberto Martinez’s men are yet to learn their next opponents; they will face the team which finishes third in either Group A, E, or F. This, in turn, could hand them a nightmare Round-of-16 tie against one of the heavyweights of the tournament.

Group B’s Best Moment

Denmark 4-1 Russia; Andreas Christensen with a pile-driver. An emotionally and physically drained Denmark took on Russia with the smallest of chances to qualify for the knockout stage.

In the ten days leading up to the match, the Danish national team lost their talisman Christian Eriksen to a tournament-ending cardiac arrest, were made to play – and subsequently beaten by – Finland within hours of the catastrophe, and were defeated by Belgium in their second match.

The Danes needed a miracle against Russia, and it arrived in the form of an Andreas Christensen stunner.

With hopes of qualification fading, Christensen popped up with one of the best – and the most important – goals of his career.

The Chelsea defender fired in a missile from outside of the box, which Matvei Safonov could do nothing about.

His strike sent the Parken wild and would prove to be the decisive goal in the Danes’ eventual qualification to the knockout stages.
