Saša Kalajdžić – 23, Austria – Group C

To begin with Kalajdžić makes sense to me as he is the sole player in which I have the loftiest expectations for. After propping up on my radar in the summer of 2019 due to him looking likely to become the heir of Mario Gomez at Stuttgart, he has exceeded expectations in such a short amount of time.

He has a goal contribution of 21 this season with 16 of them registered as goals, and what was surprising to me was only three of these were headers.

For his noticeable frame of 6’6, this was a number that I surely expected to be higher. Nonetheless, I feel as though this is a testament to the amazing technique he holds when in possession of the ball.

Despite leading the line as the sole forward through Stuttgart’s 3-4-2-1 formation, he often finds himself creating chances for his teammates through smart positioning, hold-up play and playing passes between the lines in which his midfield runners often find themselves in space along and behind the opposition defenders.

With Austria, expect him to play in a two-striker formation with RB Leipzig star Marcel Sabitzer possibly playing in a more advanced position than he has in previous seasons.
