Crystal Palace search for a new manager could be over after reports suggest former Wolves’ boss Nuno Espirito Santo is closing to getting the job.

Roy Hodgson called a quiet to his long-standing managerial career of over 45 years and now because of this, Crystal Palace are on the hunt for a new manager – but their hunt could be well and over.

As of Tuesday, it was being widely reported that Nuno Espirito Santo, who is now without a job, could be the man taking over at Selhurst Park with immediate effect.

The Eagles are one of three clubs in talks with Nuno and his entourage as they seek to fill the void left by their ex-managers – Everton and Tottenham are two of the clubs said to be looking at the Portuguese.

Comparing Nuno’s old club’s final league standings and Palace’s final destination, you’d quickly agree he is an upgrade to Roy Hodgson – and rightly so.

Last season the Wanderers ended the EPL campaign in 13th place, one place higher than Palace who were in 14th, and their lowest finish under Nuno Santo since bringing them back to the English top-flight.

Prior to a disappointing 2020/2021 term, Nuno took Wolves to the top half of the table standings and struggled to finish below seventh place. Palace under Roy achieved an 11th-place standing as their highest after a full season of English football.

Frank Lampard no longer in the running?

It was first believed that Frank Lampard was favourite to take over from Hodgson, but nothing has materialised from the early reports – Lampard too is jobless at the moment.

"After around four months of getting sacked, there have been reports about Frank Lampard being linked to Crystal Palace to replace Roy Hodgson. Well, he’s one of the candidates.Roy Hodgson has done a decent job (well, at least much better than Frank de Boer) at Crystal Palace and has made them a somewhat competitive team, staying in the mid-table spots in his three seasons at the club. Of the two Roy replacements mentioned, both would bring a new lease of life to Selhurst Park. It will certainly make them one of the London clubs to look out for and worry about coming up against.

There is no denying they will become a true contender for a top-of-the-table finish. This in return leaves Everton in a lonely place and in the same place they were last week after learning about Carlo Ancelotti leaving Goodison Park for the Bernabeu.
