Champions League Final loss shows Kane should be City’s top target
Everything stands in favour of a Harry Kane to Manchester City move.
All this augurs well for Kane’s potential integration into a City line-up flush with creators, but now lacking a quality finisher – and no PL striker has been more prolific in recent years.
In Kane’s new complete forward role, he can both begin attacks in the opposition half and finish them inside the box.
This would relieve some of the tremendous responsibilities currently shouldered by de Bruyne, whose expected goal contributions per 90 (0.96) was more than that of any of his teammates.
Given Kane’s prolific record inside the box and from headers as well, a cross-heavy attacking plan (like in the UCL Final) would work nicely too, given the quality of Riyad Mahrez and co. on the wings.
It remains to be seen if City actually makes a move for Kane, who has stated his desire to leave, and if Spurs even accept an (undoubtedly sizeable) offer.
Should it happen though, the champions’ already formidable attack would unquestionably be elevated to the world’s best – making it a potential silver lining to result from their devastating Champions League loss.
