It is believed this might be Sergio Ramos last season at Real Madrid with the player linked to a number of big clubs – Manchester City is being named as one of them and could be favourites to land his signature.

The trio of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos suffered a tough ending to their respective 2020/21 campaigns. City couldn’t complete the treble and helped Chelsea to their second Champions League gold medal.

While that was happening Los Blancos were getting ready to part ways with Zinedine Zidane, who has now left the club for the second time in the last four years. With Zidane out the door, it will be hard to convince their top players to stay put.

With Sergio Ramos, this could be the case considering there has been almost a year-long standoff between him and the club he’s been at since 2005. With them unable to meet on terms on a renewal, Manchester City are willing to offer Ramos what he wants.

Making his ending a lot more agonising, he was excluded from Spain’s provisional squad for the Euros tournament which is around the corner.

ESPN, earlier on Monday, reported that their Real Madrid correspondents, Alex Kirkland and Rodrigo G. Fáez, believe the Premier League club is ready to offer a two-year contract to Ramos.

"Manchester City are following Sergio Ramos’ situation closely and are considering offering him a two-year contract if the defender doesn’t renew at Real Madrid, multiple sources have told ESPN."

With his situation unsolved and we reaching the final month of his contract, it appears it could be the time to call it a quits on his 16-year Madrid career.

ESPN further state that Pep Guardiola admires the Spaniard and believes his leadership qualities are required at the Etihad, which could be the missing piece in finally achieving total club domination, from the Premier League to Europe.

They are willing to offer him a tailor-made contract at the English club that includes a year extension on the initial two years – this is dependent on performances.

If he fails to impress after two seasons with Manchester City, the current English champs, they want to include an agreement where he agrees to join New York City FC in the MLS  – a team in the City Football Group.

"Coach Pep Guardiola values Ramos’ experience and leadership qualities.City are looking at offering him a tailored deal based on the player’s form and own priorities: a two-year contract, with the possibility of a third if performance allows, or the alternative of a spell in Major League Soccer at City Football Group’s New York City FC. Ramos believes home is still Madrid over other destinations

The centre-back wants a deal to be struck with Madrid over all-else. He will wait as long as it takes but time is running out with his contract set to expire on the 30th of June.

Man City has already spent over £200m on defenders, acquiring one of Ramos’ calibre would be some of their best business to date, regardless of the wages club could potentially offer.

Also in for the decorated Spaniard is Ligue 1 outfit PGS. The duo of City and Paris will have to wait for later in the week – the Madrid skipper and the club president will meet sometime over the next few days to discuss his future at the Bernabeu.
