Manchester United pair rightfully inducted as the next two PL Hall of Famers
Does it surprise one that Roy Keane and Eric Cantona have been inducted first?
Does it come as a surprise that the goal machine Cantona and the general in command Keane gets the nod first in a list made up of 23 ex-Premier League superstars? Not at all!
This is the reward and at the same time the evidence of Manchester United’s superiority in the 90s and early 2000s under Sir Alex Ferguson.
All English Premier League
Many couldn’t understand why Ferguson would sign Cantona, who was regarded as a maverick and one who found it hard to play by the rules sometimes.
Eric Cantona on his enrollment in the Premier League Hall of Fame:
"I am very happy and very proud and at the same time, I am not surprised! Of course, to play in England was a dream. It is a dream of everybody to play in the Premier League. I have been lucky to play in this [Manchester United] team with wonderful players, a wonderful manager and wonderful fans. It was the football I dreamt about because Manchester United is a club where they want to win things but in a good way. It was like this in the time of Matt Busby. This is the identity of this club, the philosophy of this club. (Via: Sky Sports)"
But SAF’s eye for talent and mastermind ability to get the best out of every player when plying their trade under him proved excellent in a case such as Cantona.
The Frenchman scored 70 goals in 156 Premier League showings as a Red Devil. Even his comments on being named as a PL Hall of Famer displays his radical but confident attitude he had as a footballer.
