Every Manchester United fan started to believe that the Paul Pogba contract situation has calmed down. The French talisman has been performing at the highest level for the club in his recent games.

Paul Pogba has been putting in an extra shift in attack and defense. It was looking as if the dust had settled on his situation at the club, however, it appears it is far from settled. Manchester United have set an asking price for Pogba, who has only one year remaining in his contract.

According to reports, the Old Trafford outfit is asking for £55 million for Pogba. Manchester United have decided not to be held at gunpoint despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being in favor of keeping the French international in his squad for next season and beyond.

"Manchester United have vowed not to be held to ransom over Paul Pogba’s future. Pogba’s massive wage demands are proving a major stumbling block to him staying at Old Trafford. Pogba’s market value is placed around £55million but that would be a £34million drop in value after United signed the 28-year-old for £89 million from Juventus in 2016.(Via: Mirror)"

Mino Raiola, one of the super agents in football, has demanded wages above £400,000-a-week for his client, and if Pogba was to extend his stay in England.

The pandemic has hit the club’s finances hard and the hierarchy doesn’t want to pay huge wages for him. However, they could lose the player on a Bosman transfer if they do not extend his contract.

The midfielder has 28 goals and 29 assists in 136 English Premier League appearances. The 28-year-old has won the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League during his five-year stay at Old Trafford.

The player’s best season came in 2018/19 when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as the caretaker manager. The Frenchman had 22 G/A to his name in the English Premier League despite having a poor start to the season.

The summer transfer window is near and Solskjaer has started to outline his transfer plans. The club has to decide quickly on Pogba’s future as multiple factors depend on it being resolved, such as Bruno Fernandes‘ contract extension as well as Donny van de Beek’s future at the club.
