Improving squad depth is priority number one for the Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers have by no means had an awful season.

However, paired with the fact that the side maintained two 7th place finishes in the seasons prior, the 12th place they currently sit on is somewhat disappointing.

Wolverhampton seemed to be preparing for the future. Much of their most recent transfer activity has shown that, particularly with last summer’s deal for Fábio Silva.

Although Silva may have only gotten four goals in the league, it’s no doubt that the Wolves Portuguese transfer angle will certainly pay off in building a competitive top-half side in the near future.

Silva has in part been filling the boots of long injured striker Raúl Jiménez, whose absence from the team since November is one of the biggest reasons for their relative downgrade.

If Wolves want to maintain the heat that they have had for the past two seasons, they must address a dilemma that has frustrated them for a while.

It’s no secret that Nuno Espírito Santo likes to keep his squads compact, but if he is to avoid a similar absence of quality if a pivotal player gets injured then he must recruit a handful more players to his team.

This means splashing transfer money on less abrasive transfers like Fábio Silva. However, if this mistake is made again then it could prove even more costly for Wolves.
