Tottenham Hotspur are dealt with another blow in their pursuit for a new gaffer at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Daniel Levy sacked Jose Mourinho before the Carabao Cup finals and appointed Ryan Mason as their interim manager. The North London-based outfit are in a serious hunt for a new manager ahead of the 2021/22 season. And their current top choice, Erik ten Hag, just extended his stay at Ajax.
Spurs were reportedly in contention to sign Julian Nagelsmann as their new manager but Bayern Munich finally got him to put pen to paper. The club had turned their attention towards Ajax gaffer, Erik ten Hag, who had just one year remaining in his contract. However, Daniel Levy is left in disarray as the Dutch international signed a new contract with Ajax on Friday. The club extended ten Hag’s contract by a year and will run till June 2023. The new contract will come into force from July 2021 onwards as per the club’s official statement.
What has been said regarding Tottenham’s managerial situation? Which managers are they targeting now?
Here is what Fabrizio Romano had to say on Erik ten Hag’s situation:
"Ten Hag has extended his contract with Ajax – he has *not* turned down Tottenham. #THFC board decided to take a step back after talking with ten Hag in the last 48 hours and being aware of Ajax intention to trigger the one-year option. Tottenham will meet other managers soon.(Via: Twitter)"
Replying to the questions asked by avid football fans, the renowned transfer journalist also mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attention towards other available managers. Amongst those, Maurizio Sarri, Gareth Southgate and Rafa Benitez are tipped to occupy the vacant seat.
It is a tough ask to manage Tottenham Hotspur as both Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino failed to take the club towards a better or, at least, similar future after their Champions League final appearance.
Also, the North London-based outfit have burned their pocket by sacking Jose Mourinho, at least to an extent. It remains interesting to see whom Tottenham will end up with at the start of next season.
