Manchester City have reportedly been in the hunt for a talented, proven striker who can score goals at will, ever since Sergio Aguero announced that he would leave the club at the end of the season. Now, according to this report from Calciomercato, the Premier League giants have recognized Inter striker Romelu Lukaku as a genuine option for next season.

The Belgian striker has been in fantastic form ever since he joined Inter Milan at the start of last season, finding his true touch and scoring goals consistently, having 27 to his name this season.

After having a less-than-impressive final season at Manchester United where he scored just 12 goals in the Premier League, Lukaku packed his bags and moved to the legendary Italian outfit and hasn’t disappointed since. He’s the focal point of Inter’s attack, and has re-solidified his status as one of Europe’s best strikers.

Are there any other clubs interested in Lukaku? What was Inter’s response?

More from Manchester City

Lukaku’s form and talent have caused clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea to target him as a potential buying option next season.

Inter, according to the report, have told interested clubs that the Belgian is not for sale under any circumstance. Inter have had an excellent league season and are on course to win the Scudetto. Lukaku has played a huge role in making sure that happens and the club wants to keep hold of him for future successes.

One thing that they haven’t been able to do is making a good run in the Champions League. Well, they haven’t made it past the group stage in two seasons and that’s disappointing for a team as good as Inter. That’s surely one thing that Lukaku and Inter would want to change next season, and for that to happen they must hold on to the player at any cost.

For Manchester City, if they do manage to buy Lukaku, I don’t understand how the rest of the Premier League — rather, the rest of Europe — will be able to stop them. Since Aguero’s injury problems started, the one kind of player that they’ve been missing is a true, out and out, consistent scorer. You get that with Lukaku.

Lukaku is just great, and any club would be lucky to have him. From the looks of it, Inter’s going to be that club.
