Brendan Rodgers: The Leicester boss will not entertain any Spurs links
Brendan Rodgers’s name has popped up as a potential successor for Jose Mourinho at Tottenham but the Northern Irishman has no interest in the North London project.
Can one blame Brendan Rodgers for not wanting to make the switch from Leicester to Tottenham? No, not at all! The ongoing project at King Power Stadium appears more appealing at the moment.
With him at the Leicester City helm, the club has ruffled the feathers of the usual top six and now could be seen as a regular contender for European spots, Champions League and Europa League.
All English Premier League
The Foxes currently sit third in the standings on 62 points, four points above fourth-placed Chelsea and five points behind second-placed Manchester United. Last season they just missed out on a top-four finish by four points.
This season, they look as if they will rejoin Europe’s elite in the Champions League while brilliantly keeping Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham out of European contention for next season.
So, rightfully, Rodgers’ decline to take over the vacancy left by Mourinho is the right move. In actual fact, it’s the only move for him to consider.
His club are about two wins away from securing UCL football and are gearing up for an FA Cup final against Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea. Who would want to leave on the brink of success to rebuild somewhere else?
Brendan had this to say when asked about the Spurs job:
"Tottenham is a fantastic club, it’s one of the big clubs in this country, it’s a huge club. My focus is purely here.I’m at a world-class training facility, the project we’re in here, we still want to develop, we still have a lot of work to do here.I have a great connection with the players and the board, and we have plans to keep progressing. Spurs at risk of losing everything
The North London side endured a tough ask when they faced Manchester City in the Carabao Cup Final a weekend ago and lost 1-0. Daniel Levy’s timing of sacking Jose could not have been more ill-timed.
He left and threw Ryan Mason, the interim Spurs boss, into the deep end – giving him a limited amount of time to work with the squad before the testing encounter. It backfired and now the search for a suitable manager who can take them all the way to the top will continue.
If they do not announce a new boss before the season concludes, it could be a little too late before they lose their world-class stock. Harry Kane has already been linked with a summer exit. Having this type of saga ensuing will only make his and others’ decisions a lot easier to make.
With the Rodgers and Julian Nagelsmann’s snubs, Spurs will now turn their attention elsewhere. At the top of the list of potential managers is Ajax’s Erik ten Hag, who is said to be interested in leaving the Dutch giants during the summer period.
