Manuel Locatelli has been linked with a move to a top European club in the summer. Following recent comments, Manchester City could be in pole position to sign the midfielder.

Sassuolo’s 23-year-old playmaker is fast becoming a top target across Europe. Apparently, if you don’t know anything about Manuel Locatelli, you’ve been sleeping under a rock this whole time.

Religious Serie A watches will not have a problem identifying the midfielder and soon if his recent comments are to be considered gold, we could see him at a top club in the English Premier League very soon.

The English club ready to go toe-to-toe with Juventus is Manchester City. They’ve been monitoring his progress in Italy while evaluating their options for a possible David Silva replacement, who left at the end of last season.

More from Manchester City

Manuel Locatelli was asked about his future and what he thought about the links to Pep Guardiola’s Man City squad.

Manuel Locatelli to CorSport about Manchester City interest:

"I feel ready for a top club and also joining a foreign club is a potential option for me, why not? When there are opportunities, I will think about my furure.Juventus are now pushing to sign him. (Via: @FabrizioRomano)"

Manuel Locatelli is a chip off the old block in the Serie A

Believe it or not, at the age of 23 Manuel Locatelli has many top-flight minutes under his belt. He has already made 135 Serie A appearances in total – for both AC Milan and U.S. Sassuolo Calcio.

He made his Italian top-flight debut when he was 18 and for Milan back in 2016. Since then it has been a rough ride for Locatelli, finding it hard to impress the Milan coaches between then and now – eventually having to find regular minutes elsewhere.

This prompted his loan move to his current club Sassuolo back in 2018 – but since finding life a lot better in the Modena Province, he requested his loan move be made permanent.

Sassuolo have been enjoying a good spell with Locatelli

Since transferring from Milan to U.S. Sassuolo Calcio, they have been enjoying their time in the Serie A. Last season they concluded the campaign in the top half of the table, finishing in eighth place.

This season they sit in the same position, with an outside chance of bettering last season’s finish. They are currently on 43 points, 11 points behind Roma who are seventh in the standings.

He has contributed with five goals and 10 assists in his 88 appearances for Sassuolo. This does demonstrate his quality on the ball and that perhaps the time is now to make a switch to a bigger club where his delivery can find better targets.

For now, Manchester City and Juventus are considered as frontrunners, with Juve trying hard to complete a deal for him early and fend off their competition for the player.

Real Madrid is another possible suitor. But all their funds could be put in one transfer, a more important one, Kylian Mbappe.
