As we head towards the final stretch of the season, FPL GW31 looks like a tricky week for captaincy with most of the big-hitters having tricky fixtures this GW.

Manchester City assets undoubtedly have the standout fixture but there is always the risk of ‘Pep Roulette’ striking, especially at this point of the season with the title close to being wrapped up and games being played midweek.

Here are my Top 5 captain picks for the GW:

#5 Bruno Fernandes – Tottenham vs Manchester United (A):

The highest-scoring player in the game is never a bad captaincy option, while this isn’t really an ideal fixture for captaincy.

Spurs did look extremely shaky at the back against Newcastle and could have easily conceded more than two. José Mourinho took a clear dig at his players after the game which is never a good sign.

While Manchester United’s games against the Big 6 have been cagey affairs this season, the 6-1 humiliation in the reverse fixture earlier in the season would still be on the minds of Ole’s Red Devils.

They would want to go all guns blazing and try to take the game to the opposition here. The Spurs defence has looked far from solid and if United do play on the front foot, they have the pace to do damage on the counter.

There is always the fear of Manchester United setting up conservatively for such games though. An early goal could well decide the flow of the game and make a big difference.

All in all, Bruno isn’t the worst shout as a captaincy option. It all comes down to how you think the game and matchups will play out.

We saw what Newcastle did to Spurs, and United are certainly capable of doing that and more. If they do, expect Bruno to be at the heart of the action as always.
